My love of photography goes back to my earliest childhood memories. My grandfather was a photographer in Chicago in the early 1900s and he introduced me to the art at a very early age. His influence was profound and I was committed to a path of communicating beauty to others. I also developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and wildlife. The unspoiled world of nature has an effect on me and my work that words can't adequately describe. To me, nature is the only thing that's real. Every tree, rock and creature has a purpose in the infinite cycle of life. When I'm surrounded by nature and wildlife, I feel a sense of relaxation and perspective that simply can't be duplicated in man made environs. In this state of relaxation and amazement is where I produce my best work. Every moment is an amazing revelation. All photographs are taken with a Nikon F-5 camera on Fuji slide film. The slides are scanned on a Nikon Cool Scan 4000 into a Dell computer. The pictures are then processed with Adobe Photoshop. The computer is used to crop and adjust the color balance. Only man made objects that would distract from the image are removed. In a very few instances pictures are made of a composite and these are clearly noted. Perhaps the most thrilling aspect of my work is sharing the love and appreciation I feel with others. My goal is to communicate the timeless beauty of nature. It's my hope that others will feel what I feel and be inspired to appreciate and preserve the gifts it has for all of us. |
